WhatsApp Releases Update Allowing Group Message History (Across Devices for New Members)

Communications app, WhatsApp has gotten a much-needed boost by finally rolling out Group Message History. The rollout means that members who recently joined a new group can immediately access recent messages and be able to contribute to conversations without requiring clarification of context.



Group Message History

The recent texts won’t be already available in the chat; instead, group admins or members will have to send the most recent messages to the new joiners. All messages shared in any chat remain protected and private under end-to-end encryption.

Key Features of WhatsApp’s Group Message History Update:

  • New members can receive anywhere between 25 & 100 recent group chat messages.
  • Group admins retain the ability to disable chat history settings in groups and always the ability to share group message history.
  • Each member in the group is notified when message history is shared, and transparency is clear as timestamps and sender information is also shared.
  • A visual distinction exists between message history and regular messages.
  • The feature has completely removed the disruption created by forwarding messages and screenshots multiple times when new members are added to the chat.





In the official announcement, WhatsApp said:

"The company looked forward to continuing to set the standard for private, group chat experiences on WhatsApp."
