Apple iPhone 17 Pro Long-Term Review: Pros & Cons After 2 Months

Before and just after the Apple iPhone 17 Pro launched, much of the conversation was about the cameras, specs, and physical appearance and whether the upgrades justified the new price. It’s been two months and after all the hype has settled, people want to know if the phone’s performance meets its price value.

What Has Aged Well So Far

Apple remains consistent when it comes to the ‘Pro’ versions of the iPhone. Where most overhyped smartphones fail in a few days or weeks, the iPhone 17 Pro excels in performance, getting better by the day!

We didn’t experience any symptoms of slow down for performance failure such as glitching, freezing, overheating, or battery issues.

Performance has felt smooth despite heavy animations and we were pleased that the more demanding activities like pro gaming and video editing remained unhindered by performance issues. That said, this can be attributed to the brilliant integration between Apple hardware and software; a critical advantage Apple holds over its competitors.

I’ve been using this powerful 17 Pro for the last two months and there’s nothing to convince me that the phone has ‘aged’. A lot of users will be influenced by this one factor because more people are looking for a device capable of lasting multiple years.

Performance: ‘iPhone Pros’ Still Rank Among the Best

In my eyes, performance is the area that will make the iPhone 17 Pro one of the most dominating phones of 2026!

When you need it to, and in the moments that matter the most, this device turns any task into a pleasant activity. This includes playing demanding or top title games, running large applications, or multitasking.

What stood out for me was that after two months, it wasn’t just performance, it was ‘sustained performance’. That means that unlike other flagships that hit peak benchmarks and then drop, the 17 Pro maintains these benchmarks on prolonged use.

This Pro doesn’t just fare better against competing flagships, it also does better than last year’s iPhone 16 Pro with improved heat dissipation. This can also be a contributing factor to the lack of performance drop while using the phone for an extended period.

I found it had a noticeable impact when playing big name mobile gaming titles like BGMI or apps that strain the processor. Throughout my experience the performance was stable without fluctuations, showing the phone delivers in terms of reliability.

Camera: All Consistency, No Gimmicks

Apple has chosen to pay attention to capabilities instead of just the megapixels when it comes to the iPhone 17 Pro’s cameras.

After taking photos in just about every lighting condition, I found the phone delivered in every setting. Some of the scenarios I tested it in were indoor lighting, bright daylight, low-light areas. In every case the results were largely predictable and delivered balanced colors. The coloring in the photos was natural and processing didn’t come across as overly exaggerated.

You get that DSLR finish that the Pro series has become coveted for by photography enthusiasts.

As always, the phone doesn’t stray when it comes to video recording; one of its standout features! Color accuracy coupled with stabilization and audio capture make it a powerful and efficient device making daily content capture and creation a simple and joyful experience.

After experimenting for two whole months, it’s clear, Apple hasn’t tried to impress with a flashy camera, it’s aimed to provide a dependable camera for photography and video recording. The approach has worked!

Battery Life: Good, But Not Industry-Leading

Apple isn't popular for creating new battery tech and it shows in this iPhone 17 Pro. Battery life is standard and there’s nothing revolutionary about the battery. I got a full day of battery from the 17 Pro, even with moderate and heavy usage that consisted of video streaming, a bit of gaming, social media, and web browsing.

If you look for battery quality and consistency, you’ll find this device ticking those two boxes. The device is well optimized and there’s none of that endurance drop off when the device becomes a few weeks or months old.

There is something left to be desired though as Android flagships are already benefiting from larger batteries, new battery technology, and faster charging. In this respect, Apple feels quite conservative as the charging speeds are okay but leave heavy users clinging to their chargers.

Display: A Delightful Experience

One of the best aspects of buying an iPhone, let alone the Apple iPhone 17 Pro, is their brilliant displays.

Apart from being bright, punchy, and large, it’s also extremely responsive, indoors or outside. Adaptive refresh rate makes it easier to use the device outdoors without compromising on fluidity and battery life.

What I really liked after two months is how easy ‘daily usability’ is with this iPhone. The phone is quite polished as a daily companion and elements like touch response, system animations, and haptic feedback combine to form a refined experience.

You don’t notice this on day one but by day 60, it’s very noticeable!

Where the iPhone 17 Pro Could Have Improve

Although there are strengths, and many of them, the device isn’t perfect.

For many users, the obvious main drawback is price. Many, including myself, find it difficult to justify the higher cost. At $1,099 for the base (256GB) variant, there’s no way to deny it's an expensive device.

There are a few standard improvements over the iPhone 16 Pro but nothing that’s really worth the $100 - $150 hike. That means there is little incentive to upgrade to this device if you’re using the 2025 flagship Pro iPhone model.

Another area I found the device and Apple in general lacking in was AI-driven features. Other brands are aggressively incorporating AI feature integration in their devices, especially flagships.

Apple is using a cautious approach which won’t come across well to users who are enthusiastic about AI tools.

Also, anyone who’s recently bought a phone probably knows that phone brands have ditched complimentary accessories, and Apple has gone a step further by not including a charger! This is quite infuriating looking at the phone’s price.

Would I Recommend Buying the iPhone 17 Pro?

This question is best answered by first understanding a user’s expectations and desires.

Anyone who wishes to own a top-tier device that actually delivers on its promise of consistent performance, natural camera output, and polished operation, should choose the Apple iPhone 17 Pro which delivers on each of these promises.

But, if you already own a recent Apple iPhone 16 phone, especially the 16 Pro, there’s not much awaiting you if you upgrade. Don’t get me wrong, Apple has made meaningful upgrades, I just don’t think they are drastic enough to fork out over $1,000.

What Lies Ahead

There have been rampant rumors that Apple’s next iPhone 18 series, even though the iPhone 17 series literally just launched!

Here’s a breakdown of all the latest Apple iPhone 18 series rumors.

Final Verdict

After two months of being hands-on with the iPhone 17 Pro, I’m convinced the phone focuses more on refinement rather than trying to be the best at everything. People searching for stability, consistency, and dependability in a device will be at ease knowing the 17 Pro will deliver.

This may not be the device that gets everyone to upgrade, but, with time, it could become one of the best performing iOS devices. It could even appeal to Android users to convert to iOS for good!

If you desire long-term use and fluid user experience, the iPhone 17 Pro would be my recommendation in 2026.
