Likeable Features
Form Fact & Weight
At first glance, I couldn’t help but find the form factor of the Redmi Note 15 5G attractive. At 7.35mm, Xiaomi hasn’t shied away from the difficult task of fitting competitive components into a mid-range device while keeping it slim.

While other brands are moving away from creating ‘slim smartphones’, Redmi has made it their targeted area. Other flagships like the
Google Pixel 10a and Pixel 10 are over 8mm thick.
This makes the sub-7.5mm status of the Redmi Note 15 appealing and if that wasn’t enough, the device stays under 200 grams with a final weight of 178 grams. The light-weight is partially due to the company’s recent adoption of silicon-carbon battery technology which other brands haven’t been as fast to adopt.
The only compromise that didn’t sit well with me was the build quality which is plastic, and cheap-feeling. I guess this swap is reasonable given the price of the device.
Design
Instantly, the Redmi Note 15 naturally looks like most standard Xiaomi offerings with its roundedness and curved glass screen. The latter is not as common on modern-day smartphones.
On the back, you’ll easily be deceived by the curved square unit that houses the cameras. What to be a triple-camera setup is actually only a dual-camera array!
A notable premium element of the phone is its 6.77-inch AMOLED display that’s a rare entity on the market at this price. The specs of this eye-catching panel include a peak brightness of 3200 nits and support for 120Hz refresh rate.
I was drawn to how well Xiaomi has done to minimize all bezel areas. The AMOLED panel is colorful, provides exceptional viewing from several angles, and is pleasing to the eye every day. Another well-oiled feature is the fingerprint sensor that is fitted under the display and works reliably.
Battery & Charging Support
Upfront, there are many likeable specs about Redmi Note 15, but the 5,520mAh battery is one you can’t ignore, at least not for long! The sizable battery comes with support for 45W wired fast charging, and offers a full day of power to fuel daily tasks.
If you don’t want to be tied to a cord, the phone supports 18W wireless charging, a hard-to-find feature of mid-range devices. Even though we’ve grown to not expect it anymore, there’s a charger in the box.
Cameras
The device’s main camera features a ISOCELL HM9 sensor from Samsung is one of the first to do so. That said, the primary camera’s performance isn’t all that bad and is quite impressive overall.

The resultant photos from the primary camera are sharp and brightly colored, but in a natural way. You can capture detailed pictures using the 108MP sensor that provides up to 3x lossless zoom and you barely feel the absence of the dedicated telephoto lens.
As is the case with most smartphones these days, low-light photography doesn’t produce the best images and detailing comes at the expense of noise reduction.
Storage
At a time where phone brands are eliminating the option for expandable memory, the Redmi features a dedicated SC card slot allowing Redmi users to increase storage space by 1 TB!

Processor & Software
Upon using the Redmi Note 15, users will become aware of the major issue which I uncovered, the processor. It’s 2026, and the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chip used in this device is dated and not as capable as one thinks it is.
The Redmi Note 15 isn’t advertised as a one of the
top gaming mobile phones and some trade-offs are expected. However, after a while, even the simplest daily task seems monumental with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3.
You’ll notice the ever-present glitches while exiting and opening apps, returning to the home screen, and even when personalizing the phone’s wallpaper.
Doing anything on the Redmi Note 15 5G begins to feel slow and tiresome for a device that shouldn’t (on paper) actually be struggling.
Now here’s the crux, a major reason for the sluggishness is the in-built software. This device only features Android out of the box, and Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2.
Although their Android 16-based HyperOS 3 is incoming, it feels illegal launching a phone with software that’s older than a year!
This makes the 4 year OS update promise bittersweet because users are already starting one year behind, meaning that converts to only 3 years of major Android updates. Luckily, Xiaomi has corrected this and we’ve spoken about it in our
Xiaomi 17 Review.
Another drawback is the highly customizable UI which means extra strain and utilization of the processor. The bloatware cannot be hidden and gives the processor a higher workload from the onset.
Competitors
When on discount, the Redmi Note 15 5G has the potential to feature as one of
10 best mobiles under Rs25,000 in India. The closest competitor to the device is the Nothing Phone 3a which features a considerably more powerful processor and more recent and stock-like Android version.
Another strong alternative comes in the form of the OnePlus Nord CE5 which is a respectable all-rounder.
Xiaomi fans can consider the Poco X7 Pro over the Redmi Note 15 if they fancy features beneficial for gaming including, longer battery backup and powerful processing without excessive heating.
Reasons to Buy the Redmi Note 15 5G
- A vivid AMOLED display is a non-negotiable requirement
- Form factor, weight, and battery are important in this order
- Using older Android software doesn’t matter
- You seek one of the best mid-range devices
Reasons Not to Buy the Redmi Note 15 5G
- You want a reliable device for glitch free daily use
- You intend on keeping the device for several years
- You’re eye is already on another device and you have an expandable budget
While the Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 5G is a beyond decent device, there are glimpses of what the company can achieve. However, the lingering glitch is the outdated software and plastic build that stop it from headlining its segment.
